Patient-centered fertility treatment

decision-making.jpeg

Eline Anke Fleur Dancet has recently published a paper in Fertility and Sterility journal. Every time I read something about this, it makes me feel happy.

This paper starts saying “In daily practice, patients are insufficiently involved in choosing between treatment options, as treatment decisions are predominantly made by professionals based on their diagnosis of patients’ physical condition. Not only patients’ physical condition, but also patients’ treatment preferences, should be taken into account when choosing the right treatment option for an individual patient”.

Wow! Great paragraph! This is what I think it is one of the most important things in medicine: patient’s perspective. I like listening to patients because their opinions help me take the correct decision.

This opinion paper proposes a “framework for patient-centered fertility treatment,” that gives patients a novel central position in daily practice treatment choices. The proposed framework looks at treatment through the patient’s rather than the professional’s eyes.

Wow! Another great couple of sentences! Evidence-based medicine is a mix of best available evidence, doctor’s experience and patients´preferences. I like EBM: I like the best available evidence; I like looking through patient’s eyes.
